HOW TO:
Prepare for the PDCA 2013 Awards Program

It is never too soon to prepare for the 2013 Annual Awards Ceremony. Now is the perfect time to begin documenting your award winning project to be an eligible recipient for a 2013 Picture It Painted Professionally (PIPP) award.

Follow the criteria below and get started today. All entries will be judged on the following four (4) criteria:

• Depiction of project through submitted digital photographs (a minimum of 10, maximum of 20, before and after photos);
• Narrative which corresponds to the numbered pictures (including commentary from the customer that the project met or exceeded expectations as well as includes specific reference to applicable PDCA Standards and Craftsmanship Operating Procedures);
• Complexity of the project depicted through the narrative and digital photographs; and
• Overall aesthetic appeal and craftsmanship through the narrative and digital photographs.

PDCA SPOTLIGHT
A. E. Robert Friedman PDCA Scholarship

Applications are currently being accepted for the A.E. Robert Friedman PDCA Scholarship. A.E. Robert Friedman served as legal counsel for PDCA for many years and was a strong supporter of education. At the time of his passing, a request was made by his family to establish an on-going scholarship program in his honor. Since that time, over $310,000 has been contributed to the Fund, primarily by PDCA members' individual donations.

An A.E. Robert Friedman Scholarship is open to any high school senior or college age student seeking to further their education. Applicants must have an active PDCA member sponsor them through a nomination letter submitted to PDCA Headquarters.

Industry Standards User Manual Saves You Money

Are you using P1 Touch Up in your contracts?
One of the biggest problems that painting and decorating contractors encounter is not getting paid for repairing damage done to their work. PDCA Standard P1 defines criteria to determine whether or not a surface has been painted properly.
"I was able to negotiate the Touch Up Standard [P1] into my master contract with a general contractor for a large, multifamily project," said David Ryker, David A. Ryker Painting Company, Inc. "My contract increased four percent just by enforcing the clause. The extra dollars...paid my Chapter, Council and National PDCA dues for approximately five years."
